GWM’s global pickup division delivered another strong result in 2025, securing its 28th consecutive year as China’s leading pickup manufacturer while continuing to accelerate growth across international markets.
The brand sold 181,660 pickup trucks globally in 2025, underpinned by robust performance in both domestic and overseas markets. In China, the world’s largest automotive market, GWM now accounts for nearly 50 percent of the pickup segment, meaning one in every two pickups sold carries a GWM badge. Internationally, overseas sales reached 63,784 units — a 17 percent year-on-year increase — positioning GWM as the leading Chinese pickup brand by export volume.
Among GWM's international markets, Australia has emerged as a strategic cornerstone, with the brand earning strong recognition from local customers and off-road communities alike. The Cannon lineup climbed to new heights in 2025, recording 12,412 sales, up 34.1 percent over the previous year (based on VFACTS). Cannon Alpha contributed 2,524 units, up 38.8 percent, driven by growing customer adoption of GWM’s Hi4-T PHEV technology.
In May 2025, the Cannon and Cannon Alpha Hi4-T PHEV successfully conquered Beer O’Clock Hill, one of Australia’s most demanding off-road obstacles. In doing so, the Cannon Alpha Hi4-T PHEV became the first electrified vehicle to complete the ascent, reinforcing that electrification and genuine off-road capability can coexist. This achievement further underpinned its positioning as the world’s first true off-road PHEV pickup, a claim validated by its recognition as CarExpert’s “Best Electrified Ute” in 2025.
Alongside electrification, GWM continues to invest in advanced powertrain development with the introduction of the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 Cannon, paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Delivering 260kW of power and 500Nm of torque, the V6 Cannon was put to the ultimate test in one of the world’s toughest motorsport environments — the Taklimakan Rally. Competing in the T2.1 production fuel category, the powertrain secured six stage wins, providing a compelling demonstration of its durability, reliability and performance under extreme endurance conditions.
GWM currently operates in more than 60 countries, with strong momentum in key markets such as Australia, South Africa, and Chile. In August 2025, production commenced at the company’s Brazilian manufacturing facility, enabling local assembly of the 2.4-litre GWM Cannon for the Latin American market. Cumulative global pickup sales have now exceeded 2.85 million units.
Beyond market growth, GWM continues to play an active role in industry development through its involvement with the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers' Pickup Truck Branch, advocating for regulatory reform, market expansion, and innovation within the category. The company supports its global operations with dedicated research and development centres, manufacturing facilities, and distribution networks, delivering Chinese automotive engineering to markets worldwide.
