GWM has marked another significant milestone in Australia, celebrating its 250,000th vehicle sale with the handover of a Flamingo Pink ORA 5 SUV to Louise Johnson from Hoppers Crossing, a Melbourne primary school arts teacher whose new electric vehicle has already become a hit with her students.
Louise, who teaches art at a Melbourne primary school, said the ORA 5 SUV quickly became a conversation starter among both colleagues and students. "My students noticed it in the car park on day one and haven't stopped talking about it since," she said. "They love the colour and the fact that it's electric. It's become a real talking point around the art room."
The milestone follows GWM's record-breaking June 2026 sales result and comes during the brand's strongest period of growth in Australia. It also reflects the company's broader momentum as it progresses through a nine-model product offensive and works towards its ambition of becoming one of Australia's Top 5 automotive brands by 2027.
Since establishing its local presence, GWM has evolved from a niche importer into one of Australia's fastest-growing automotive brands, expanding its portfolio across the Haval, TANK, Cannon and ORA brands while building a national dealer network to support that growth.
The ORA 5 SUV has played an important role in that transformation, introducing many Australians, including first-time EV buyers like Louise, to the GWM brand. Fittingly, the milestone vehicle is an ORA 5 SUV, reflecting how both the company and the local market have evolved, with electric vehicles now playing an increasingly important role in the brand's ongoing success.
GWM Australia Chief Operating Officer, John Kett, said the milestone reflected the confidence Australian customers had placed in the brand as its product range continued to expand.
"Two hundred and fifty thousand sales is a significant achievement for any brand, but what means the most to us is who that number represents," Mr Kett said.
"Louise is exactly the kind of customer we set out to win over, someone who wasn't necessarily considering GWM a few months ago, but who found a vehicle that suited her lifestyle, her values and, in this case, even her classroom. Customers like Louise are the reason milestones like this matter."
"We're incredibly proud of how far the brand has come, and with a strong pipeline of new models still to launch this year, including the Cannon Hi4-T Plug-in Hybrid and our new 3.0-litre turbo-diesel variants, this is a milestone along the way rather than the finish line."
"What's particularly exciting is how quickly these milestones are now arriving. Each one has come faster than the last, reflecting the momentum we've built through better products, stronger dealer partners and growing customer confidence. That's what a genuine climb towards a Top 5 position looks like."
To mark the occasion, Louise was presented with her Flamingo Pink ORA 5 SUV during a handover event attended by representatives from GWM Australia and the team at Werribee GWM.
The 250,000-vehicle milestone comes as GWM enters its largest-ever product offensive in Australia, with nine new and updated models scheduled to launch over the coming months. Supported by continued investment in its national dealer network, local engineering and validation program, and an expanding range of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric and internal combustion vehicles, GWM remains firmly focused on its ambition of becoming one of Australia's Top 5 automotive brands by 2027.
GWM extends its gratitude to our customers, dealers, partners and staff for their unwavering support and contribution to this achievement.
