GWM doubles the fun, with inaugural Funnest Runner(s) crowned at City2Surf

The world’s biggest fun run well and truly lived up to expectations, with GWM awarding not one, but two official Funnest Runners following the culmination of their comic relief on course at City2Surf 2026.

As the Major Automotive Partner of City2Surf, GWM brought the fun with the all-new GWM ORA 5 SUV, which took centre stage as the official pace car for the race.

Following the launch of the all-new GWM ORA 5 SUV and its playful brand platform, “Live a Little mORA”, the world’s largest fun run, City2Surf provided the perfect opportunity for GWM to bring even more fun to the course and celebrate runners who weren’t necessarily out to be first – but were there to be the funnest.

GWM helped to power people over the line with a smile, engaging comedian Bec Charlwood, who was stationed on course to help runners tap into the power of positivity. As it is scientifically proven that smiling can help you perform better in running.

And while the runners brought the fun, the all-electric GWM ORA 5 SUV brought the power. Running the race entirely on EV range, the ORA 5 SUV’s 435km range means it could complete the 14km City2Surf course more than 31 times without recharging.*

Official GWM Funnest Runner spotters tracked the course, selecting contenders throughout the day and celebrating those who truly embodied the spirit of “Live a Little mORA”, culminating in a live podium presentation at the GWM ORA podium stand at Bondi Beach.

Congratulations to Melissa Thorn and Ertaza Arif, who were too tough to split in the end, both taking home the inaugural 2026 GWM Funnest Runner award. The pair embodied the fun spirit of City2Surf and showed us exactly what it means to Live a Little mORA – celebrating not the first, but the funnest.

*Based on 435km WLTP range and a 14km City2Surf course. Actual range may vary depending on conditions and driving behaviour.
